Exterior Design of an Outdoor Bar in a park in Berne. The project had two phases with a turnaround of 10 days until opening (phase 1) - one of the shortest I have ever worked with! Phase 2 was about the bar trailer interior and finalisation outside. The work included

  • Planning of an ideal layout to maximise the amount of seats
  • Lighting inside trailer and outside
  • Functional design of the ordering and clearing station
  • Outdoor multifunctional furniture design
  • Plants, decoration and soft furnishings

The park had no infrastructure other than a power outlet, but provided a great setting with gravel ground and lovely old trees.
The bar trailer had been bought including some kitchen facilities, but had no light in- or outside.
The approved usable plot was 77m2.

Inspiration

The brand design of the Piazza im Park logo as well as the natural materials around it provided the basis for the moodboard. The brief was for the design to be industrial yet elegant.

Realisation

The realisation of the design took place within a few days. Key challenges were the fact that the park is in the middle of an urban high traffic zone, so everything needed to be not just weatherproof but also secured against protected against vandalism.

After the redesign, Piazza im Park has become a place to pause, breathe, and simply be—a retreat surrounded by greenery right in the heart of Bern. By day, guests enjoy the relaxed vibe of summer, shade & spritz, while evenings unfold into lively yet stylish gatherings. Warm materials, atmospheric lighting, and natural accents shape a space that feels both inviting and functional—equally suited for a quiet coffee or a night out with friends.
As one guest put it: “Even though you’re right in the middle of the city, it feels like a quiet oasis.”
Design combines modern clarity with a sense of ease, turning Piazza im Park into a unique spot where authentic encounters and lingering moments feel effortless.
